Course Description

This onboarding course on analog design and simulation is curated for designers new to the Cadence Virtuoso environment. The course includes lectures and labs built on the latest Virtuoso release (Virtuoso Studio). You learn to create transistor-level design schematics in the Schematic Editor, set up analyses in the Analog Design Environment (ADE), run simulations using the Spectre simulator, and view the simulation results. This is a foundational course for advanced simulations and analyses, some training for which is listed in the related courses section below. Examples of some of the features discussed in this class are:
  • Creating New Cellviews and editing the Hierarchy
  • Assistants in ADE Explorer and Schematic Editor
  • How to Set Design Variables in ADE Explorer
  • How to Add a test in ADE Assembler
  • Simulation Run in ADE Assembler

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Design and enter transistor-level schematics in the Virtuoso Schematic Editor
  • Create reusable symbols in your schematic
  • Setup DC, Transient, and small-signal analyses in the Virtuoso ADE
  • Create a single testbench in the ADE Explorer
  • Setup multiple tests in the ADE Assembler
  • Use design variables and set up multiple corners
  • Save your signals and expressions
  • Run Spectre simulations on your designs
  • Analyze simulation results
