Air travel accounts for nearly 3% of global CO2 emissions, and with the increasing accessibility to aviation, that number is rising fast. Ascendance aims to reduce CO2 emissions from helicopters by up to 80% using hybrid-electric propulsion systems. They’re supporting the decarbonization of air fleets by selling their technology to other aircraft manufacturers. To configure their aircraft, Ascendance uses Cadence tools paired with Oracle hardware. With the help of Cadence Fidelity CFD Software and its Pressure-Based Solver (PBS) feature, Ascendance has been able to reduce its simulation times drastically while increasing computational capacity.
