The overwhelming majority of analog/mixed-signal (AMS) IP and analog-centric mixed-signal ICs are designed using the industry-leading Cadence® Virtuoso® Platform with a schematic-driven flow and an Analog-on-Top (AoT) implementation methodology.
The Virtuoso Layout Suite offers a robust set of AMS technologies for placement and routing, layout optimization, and floorplanning. Based upon a connectivity- and constraint-driven environment, the Virtuoso Layout Suite supports correct-by-construction layout with a common constraint system that manages topological, electrical, and design-rule-specific constraints to preserve design intent throughout the entire physical implementation process.
After design is completed using the Virtuoso Schematic Editor, Virtuoso Analog Design Environment, and Virtuoso Multi-Mode Simulation solutions, the Virtuoso floorplanner is employed for top-level mixed-signal floorplanning. The Virtuoso floorplanner supports soft and hard rectilinear blocks, layout and abstract views, and performs congestion analysis and pin optimization.
Custom block implementation, driven by schematic connectivity and constraints, ensures correct-by-construction layout. Tedious design tasks can be automated, such as device generation, placement, and routing. The Virtuoso Layout Suite has a robust set of constraint and design-rule-driven assisted-wire-editing capabilities such as point-to-point, finish wire, pushing and shoving of wires, and guided routing on single nets and buses, as well as an array of specialty routing types such as bus/bundle, differential pair, shielding, pin-to-trunk, matched length, and symmetry.
To cope with rising digital content and complexity, design teams are turning to the Virtuoso Digital Implementation solution, a complete synthesis and place-and-route system for digital block implementation within an AoT methodology. The Virtuoso Layout Suite interoperates with Virtuoso Digital Implementation via the OpenAccess database to enable the seamless sharing of both design data and constraints.
Once the custom and digital blocks are complete, the Virtuoso Layout Suite provides a robust set of advanced placement, routing, and optimization finishing tools to satisfy the demands of top-level implementation and chip integration tasks.
