e VERIFICATION LANGUAGE

e is a mature solution used by most verification specialists in the world for advanced verification. It is, therefore, the most mature in its coupling to methodology, technology, and VIP. It has the ability to scale to the most complex block/unit, chip, system, and project levels (the vertical focus on the map below). Its also has a unique technical foundation called Aspect-oriented Programming that enable far easier reuse and much more rapid "extendibility" for derivative environments (without changing and reverifying every module).

IEEE standardizes e language on April 5, 2006

The IEEE has approved the e language standard (1647), so that it is now open to all.
"Cadence is very pleased to see the broad support for the standardization of e by thousands of engineers who today rely on e-based verification process automation solutions to remove risk and increase predictability and productivity", said Moshe Gavrielov, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Verification Division at Cadence Design Systems. "We look forward to an even broader proliferation of e throughout the industry. e has an important role to play in the future of verification, and that's why Cadence continues to increase its investment in the language, and more importantly, its advanced system-wide applications."

Market-leading Cadence products such as Incisive Enterprise Specman Elite, Specman Simulator, and e-based Verification IP are joined by a burgeoning marketplace of e-based tools.

EDA companies that support e include:

e statistics

There have been over 5,000 tapeouts with the e language
It is estimated that there are >100 million lines of e code
e code is typically three times more compact than any other solution
e is used by thousands of engineers who are already linked in several on-line communities (e.g., cdnusers.org and Yahoo e group)
There are over 60,000 workstations running e-based tools
e usage has increased every year since it was introduced (measured by license count and related product revenue)
There are >1000 reusable e components developed by customers and partners
Over 250 independent engineering consultants provide e language verification services
