Course Description
In this course, you use the Virtuoso® Analog Design Environment XL licensed software to learn techniques for running advanced analog simulations. You are introduced to the Virtuoso analog design environment (ADE) XL environment and its assistants and workspaces. You create multiple tests, run parametric sweeps, set up multiple corners, and run corner analysis. You simulate designs against specifications, manage simulation history, and create datasheets. You also learn to evaluate operating-region conditions, run sensitivity analysis, and use RelXpert to perform reliability analysis. You learn the sampling methods to set up Monte Carlo simulations and to run the analysis. You view the results in the enhanced Virtuoso Visualization and Analysis (ViVA) XL tool.
This course does not include basic schematic entry and simulation. These topics are in the Virtuoso Schematic Editor IC 6.1.5 and the Virtuoso Analog Design Environment IC 6.1.5 courses, which are prerequisites to this course.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
o Customize the Virtuoso ADE XL simulation environment by creating workspaces, using bookmarks and tabs, and running multiple processes
o Use the ADE XL simulation environment and available assistants to set up and run simulations on an analog circuit
o Run analysis for multiple tests simultaneously using separate testbenches
o Set specifications for circuit performance and evaluate pass/fail scenarios
o Manage history items that contain previous simulation results
o Create datasheets using information available in simulation history
o Run operating point checks on all the devices in your circuit
o Determine circuit sensitivity and run reliability analysis using RelXpert
o Set up multiple corners, evaluate worst case corners, and run corner analysis
o Apply different sampling methods and run Monte Carlo simulations
o Use OCEAN in the ADE XL environment

Prerequisites
You should have experience with the related software or complete the following courses:
o Virtuoso Schematic Editor vIC.6.1.5
o Virtuoso Analog Design Environment v IC6.1.5
If you have not taken these courses, then you need the equivalent experience in design entry with Virtuoso Schematic Editor L and XL and basic simulation with ADE L. This also implies that you have experience in analyzing simulation waveforms using a waveform viewer/editor. You can also meet this requirement by having taken the ADE IC 5.1.41 course in the past, or by having substantial experience using ADE 5.1.41 in running simulations.
