VERTICAL SOLUTION FOR ETHERNET

Ethernet has maintained its position as the leading LAN protocol over a period that has seen incredible changes in the communications market place. Key factors in this longevity have been low cost of ownership and the provision of scalability. The evolution of Ethernet standards has enabled manufacturers to develop exciting new products while continuing to benefit from the unmatched Ethernet infrastructure, knowledge base and management tools. Cadence's Vertical Solution for Ethernet has a comprehensive range of offerings to meet all of your Ethernet needs. These include engineering services, hard and soft design IP, verification IP and emulation solutions for fast, gigabit and 10 gigabit Ethernet.

At the top level, the Cadence Ethernet solution contains the following components:

Engineering Services to assist with IC/board-level design, integration, and verification
Soft Design IP: UNH Tested MACs for all Ethernet speeds along with software drivers and interface wrappers for maximum flexibility
Hard Design IP: 10/100 PHYs from Cadence complemented by a wide range of SerDes solutions from Rambus: covering Gigabit and 10 Gigabit (XAUI) Ethernet
Verification IP: Gigabit verification IP from Denali, tested against Cadence design IP
SpeedBridge: rate-adapter cards which support emulation of Gigabit Ethernet

Engineering Services

Working as your design partner, Cadence can bring a lengthy track record of successful experience helping customers like you integrate Ethernet into their ICs and systems. In addition to considerable IP and SoC development expertise Cadence Services engineers regularly visit the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Interoperability Labs to validate both our IP and help validate customer products.

Implementation IP

As a recognized leader in the development of complete solutions for the communications market Cadence has developed a range of quality IP that combines high performance with unmatched ease of integration. Combined with Rambus Ethernet SerDes cores this represents the most comprehensive Ethernet IP offering available.

Ethernet Soft IP

Cadence's range of Ethernet IP includes MACs, software drivers, wrappers, PCS and SerDes modules.

For 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications the 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC (XGM) is complemented by our 10 Gig to 1 Gig Ethernet Converter (XG2G) and a range of PCS cores to provide developers with real choice in architecting their 10 Gig products.

For Gigabit Ethernet applications the Cadence GEM is a Gigabit Ethernet MAC which is made available with a wide range of interface wrappers and drivers. The wrappers provide developers with significant flexibility in the selection of SerDes and the drivers provide a complete software solution to ensure rapid deployment of the IP in the chosen network environment.

The MACB 10/100 Ethernet MAC Controller has seen more production silicon than any other Cadence IP—the wide range of interface wrappers and software drivers provided with the MACB has made this a favorite with developers and led to its use in a surprising variety of applications.

Ethernet Hard IP

Cadence have access to Rambus's portfolio of RaSer serial link IP solutions which includes a family of backplane serial interfaces, Gigabit and 10-Gigabit Ethernet PHYs, XAUI and double-XAUI serial interfaces, PCI Express and Turbo PCI Express PHYs, 1, 2 & 4 Gbps Fibre Channel and SONET/SDH PHYs and 5-10 Gbps high-speed serial interfaces. These support all major foundry processes ranging from 180nm to 90nm. The RaSer family offers designers a scalable serial link architecture that addresses current and future serial link applications requiring the highest bandwidth and channel count on a single chip. This provides the industry's widest range of SerDes which can be delivered off-the-shelf (OTS) or as part of design solutions customized by Cadence Engineering Services.

Verification IP

Denali Verification IP for Gigabit Ethernet enables customers to accelerate the deployment and verification of Ethernet interfaces into their SoC devices. As a leading developer of Verification IP Denali understand the challenges of verification reuse and their flexible VIP solutions provide unrivalled ease of use.

Cadence, Rambus and Denali IP products have been integrated and tested together under the Cadence Incisive Platform—ensuring that developers are able to benefit from using these cores together rather than having to debug inconsistencies as is often the case when using point solutions from different providers which have not been tested together.

Ethernet SpeedBridge

Emulation solutions based on the Palladium hardware emulator from Cadence enable Ethernet developers to significantly reduce their verification timescales while increasing the quality of their verification. The Ethernet SpeedBridge enables developers to test Ethernet systems under real traffic conditions and supports hardware / software co-design. Combining faster verification with the ability to begin software development earlier in the project can reduce project timescales by half.
