new user- Using FileStim16. Reply

Hi. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to use FileStim16.

I’ve connected a bus called data[0-15] to the F16 (FileStim) called “data”. Filename = data.stl

Created a stimulus file (data.stl), with a bus called data (16bits wide).

Via PSpice , Edit Simulation Profile ,Configuration Files, (Category Stimulus). And Edit to create the file.

But keep getting the following errors.

ERROR – Unable to find signal DATA1 in stimulus file “data.stl”

This will repeat for all 16 data signals.

Using OrCad version 15.7.

Seems like the stimulus name in the data.stl file should be DATA1 - is it so?

I've put the following text in to the data.stl file and have address & data bus's called A and D and single signals call CS, RD & WR, which work.

*Header, containing signal names for file data.stl
HEX(A15,A14,A13,A12) HEX(A11,A10,A9,A8) HEX(A7,A6,A5,A4) HEX(A3,A2,A1,A0)
HEX(D15,D14,D13,D12) HEX(D11,D10,D9,D8) HEX(D7,D6,D5,D4) HEX(D3,D2,D1,D0) CS, RD WR

*Beginning of the transitions
; A D C R W
0 0000 0000 1 1 1
+10ns 0000 0000 0 1

Problem now is stimulus editor don't see the stimulus data and show traces, and if I use the editor to create the stimulus, PSpice can't match the names.

It would seem that the data format is not compatible between PSpice and Stimulus editor?

Did you create data.stl file using PSpice Stimulus Editor? Does the data.stl file contain a 'stimulus' corresponding to data? If yes, what is the name of the stimulus? PSpice Problem Editor allows you to add the 'trace'.

This file created by stimulus editor will produce the errors after it. but will show traces in the editor window. just some random data put in to produce a file.

Not sure what's causing errors (I don't get them) - try saving the data.stl file in a location that does not contain spaces in directory names i.e. relocate it to C:\Test folder instead of C:\Documents and Settings\...

Have created a new design in a directory with no spaces in the path names and short path name. Still the same problem! it can't see the signals in the file created by sitmulus editor.

Use the STIM16 part the Source library (modify the value of Implementation property so that it's the name of the signal defined in the .stl file).

Hi Khurana,

Just found the answer.

If you use Filestim16 (F16) you create a txt file with the data looking like this.

*Header, containing signal names for file data.stl
HEX(A15,A14,A13,A12) HEX(A11,A10,A9,A8) HEX(A7,A6,A5,A4) HEX(A3,A2,A1,A0)
HEX(D15,D14,D13,D12) HEX(D11,D10,D9,D8) HEX(D7,D6,D5,D4) HEX(D3,D2,D1,D0) CS, RD WR

*Beginning of the transitions
; A D C R W
0 0000 0000 1 1 1
+10ns 0000 0000 0 1

if you use DigiStim (s16)

You use the stimulus edit and let it create the file format. and the implementation = is you STL file.

and that seems to work.
