    ODB++ not generating Reply

    Hello Guys,

I am trying to generate ODB++ for one of my designs. Allegro 15.2 is giving out following error:

E- *Error* parseString: argument #1 should be either a string or a symbol (type template = "SS") - nil

Can anyone tell me whats wrong with my DB?

    Thanks

    Hassan

    Hi Hassan

This could be a number of problems - first places to look are the stackup (check that the layer stackup is correct, and no obvious problem(, then check the artwork names (again, check for problems in the names etc). These tend to be the 2 most common areas for problems.

    Hi Andy,

    Yjanks for the advice,

I have checked the artwork names plus stackup, I can't find anything irregular...... so problem is still there..... I have checked the padstack for irregularities also....... everything seems okay............ But ODB++ is still not generating......

    Hi Hassan

I'd raise a Service Request with your local Cadence office and get them to look at it. They should be able to debug this for you.

    Regards
    Andy

    Hi Hassan,

The only parseString commands in the extract file are related to layers in the artwork definitions.
The error indicates to me that one of your available films is missing any layers or that a layer name in a film definition is invalid. Check each of the Available Films in the Artwork Control Form.

    Cheers, Dave

    Well guys,

The problem turned out to be a strange one.......... In recent past, I had sent the brd file to Cadence for backanotation to orcad schematic (refdes renaming).

It appears that guys at Cadence used 15.7 to open the brd file, while I was using 15.2. Allegro does not give warning if you are opening a 15.2 db in 15.7 or other way around. Thus in the process the db was converted into 15.7 compatible format and thus caused ODB ++ generation problem in 15.2

So the bottom line is ODB++ generated smoothly from 15.7 :)
