Problem with working off site using Allegro PCB Designer Reply

Problem with working off site using Allegro PCB Designer. It’s a preference issue- Cadence software, on my off site computer, apparently, is constantly searching for the license file, thru my DSL internet connection, creating a long lag time between commands and while editing. Is there anyway to resolve this issue? Maybe have the software only look for the license when activating or saving the job? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that your CDS_LIC_FILE variable is set to only look on your local machine for the license file.

    Hi Tacoma,
If the license file isn't on your computer, make sure that the CDS_LIC_FILE is pointing only at the computer that has the license it is using.

I have same, odd behaviour. My CDS_LIC_FILE is set as you suggested & the delays are still in.
    Any other comment?

Is your design and software you are working with on your local machine? If not, that can cause a large delay.

    - Your design should be on your local computer: allegro write "online" a journal in the database.

    - The software request abouit each 15 minute the license server "is it ok?", so your connection speed can impact performance.

    - Do you have a firewall? A bad configured firewall may prevent communication with license server...

We are having similar problems with the Orcad Layout license server. We are trying to share one license between three users but it seems that when a user closes a session the license remains tied to the user and remains unavailable to other users. Our IT contractor disabled the MS WINXP firewall. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

There are often problems with the FlexLM tool where even though a user closes, the license server leaves it open. The following are the instructions to close a hanging license:
    command

lmutil lmremove [-c licfile] -h feature host port handle

    example:

    lmutil lmremove -c 5280@myserver.mycompany. com -h SPECCTRAQuest_SI_expert myserver.mycompany. com 5280 724

This kills the specctraquest session with handle 724 on license server myserver.mycompany.com on port 5280

Check the FlexLM help for more details.

Best way I found to handle this was to split the license file. Run 1 license from a laptop for portability (in my case Allegro and Concept), the rest from your computer at work. The laptop can serve licenses to other users when it is connected at work as long as the license path is specified correctly.

Another idea is to use the actual address of the machine you are targeting ( ie. 5280@99.99.99.99) which effectively eliminates any potential issues with your naming server.
