    Package Origin and IDF Reply

Hey guys...my Mechanical Designer and I are working on communicating back and forth between SolidWorks and Allegro with IDF translations. The translations work great and the models look wonderful, however our one hangup is defining where the origin of the part is supposed to be.

Now on SMT chips and discretes it is pretty easy because it is supposed to the centroid or geometric center of the part. We are having trouble defining the package origin for parts like a surface mounted RJ11 connector with the locking mounting holes, for example.

I would like to hear your thoughts and practices on this.
