    Back drilling Reply

I have a request to add an additional blind drill to many through hole pin locations on a connector. Is it possible to have 2 drill locations in the same location at the same time?

I don't have any experience with back drilling, but since no one else has responded I'll try. You can either replace the through hole padstacks with blind padstacks or actually add a larger blind via defined on certain layers where the orginal padstack exists. So to answer your question, 'yes', but I would suggest contacting your fab house for details. You may also want to do a Google search for info about back drilling since it's a fairly new process. The following link may be a good start:

Looks like the entire link didn't show up...
This part should be at the beginning of the link above (or do a Google search).

    Sorry for the confusion.

I tried the link posted but it didn't work. Is there any other to specified the back drilling with Allegro, beside adding blind/burried vias?

A new feature Back drilling is introduced in 15.7 (XL) might help you with more information.

    Good Luck,
    Raj.

Amphenol-TCS (afterTeradyne Amphenol merger) has a nice paper on backdrilling. You can request it at:
    http://www.amphenol-tcs.com/resource_center/abstracts/back_drilling_012003.html

This white paper (and the help menus in V15.7 on the Allegro backdrilling routine), will explain a lot.

    Regards,
    Tim
