Rapid IP3/IP2 option in PAC simulator Reply

Is the rapid IP3/IP2 simulation option depending on Cadence version or it is a separate license feature? I have seen it is available at IC5.10.41_USR3.27.30, but not available at IC5.10.41_USR5.90.69? Anyone knows why?

It is dependent upon having a spectre in your path which supports RapidIP2/3. For this you need MMSIM60 USR1 or later (I think) - but more sensibly you'd have a supported version (i.e. MMSIM61 or MMSIM62).

If you don't have spectre from one of these streams in your path before the IC paths, then you'll pick up the old version of spectre which comes with the IC tools (in releases after IC5141, spectre is no longer included in the IC stream; the transition to a separate stream happened within the life of IC5141). The IC5141 version of spectre doesn't include many of the newer features of SpectreRF (such as Rapid IP2/3, Harmonic Balance, and so on).

I suspect that when you were using the older USR, you had MMSIM in your path, but when using USR5, you have this missing for some reason.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thanks Adbeckett.
I am quite new on the CAD stuff. Can you share me more in detail how can I turn it on or if it is available to my current version?

    Hi willchen,

The simplest thing to do is to look in the output log window from a spectre simulation that you're running in IC5141 USR5 - what does it show as the version number of spectre (it will be near the top)?

If using the csh as your shell, in UNIX you'd do:

    setenv MMSIMHOME /path/to/your/MMSIM/installation/root
    setenv ICHOME /path/to/your/IC/installation/root

    set path = ($MMSIMHOME/tools/bin $ICHOME/tools/dfII/bin $ICHOME/tools/bin $path)

(note there's nothing special about the MMSIMHOME and ICHOME env vars - I just made them up. The key thing is assembling your path in the right order.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
