Footprint dimensions for Tantalum cap EIA 2824 (metric 7260) Reply

Can anyone point me to where I can find a drawing that shows the dimensions for a EIA 2824 (metric 7260)?

I find it very interesting that none of the data sheets for the part we want to use has the pad dimensions.

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Tom,

You might check out this datasheet from Kemet for caps in your size:

    http://www.kemet.com/kemet/web/homepage/kechome.nsf/file/KEM_F3084_SPC.pdf/$file/KEM_F3084_SPC.pdf

Not that your part/mfg will precisely match, but should be close if they claim EIA standard packages.

    Thanks Roger.

I had seen that data sheet before. While it gives you part dimensions, I was unable to find any references to any recommended footprint patterns. I have since made a footprint based on the physical size of the part and it should work just fine. I just found it odd that I could not find a specific footprint for this package.

These situations are why I broke down and purchased an IPC spec few years back that came with a "land calculator app". Besides coming with some libraries for standard parts (but it doesn't list your 2824), it lets you enter your part/pin dimensions and then calculates the pad sizes for you per IPC standards.  I usually use it as a footprint doublecheck, even when manufacturers have a recommended footprint.

If you like I can run the Kemet datasheet dimensions thru it and let you know what it comes up with.
