Re-using design constraints with different stackups. Reply

    Hello,

Is there a way to re-use design constraints if the stack-ups are different?  I just finished a 12 layer board and am now working on an 8 layer board which requires the same constraints? Ultimately all I would like to transfer is the spacing constraints. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Clint

You could try from Constraint Manager use File - Export - Technology File, the just select physical and spacing. In 16.6 there is the ability to create a generic tech file that uses Top, Bottom, Internal Signal and Internal Plane.

Has anyone found a solution for this one yet?  I'm looking to copy over constraints for multiple different boards with different layer counts.

I'm on 16.3 and when I try to use the technology file it does not allow me to bring it in if the cross sections does not match.

If possible I like to bring in tech file from the whole board instead of just the constraints manager. (For items from setup/constraints/modes and etc.)

Please let me know if anyone has suggestions.

OK maybe I was just being dumb.  It looks like it's working now without error and I can't seem to find the error report I was getting yesterday.

Cadence introduced a "generic" export in 16.6. From Constraint Manager try a File - Export - Constraints then at the bottom og the GUI click on Generic and Configure.
