    importing P/G pins into Encounter with .def file Reply

    Dear all,
    I have been trying to get the pins (VDD and VSS) in the extracted .def file from cadence into Encounter. however, when i do the defIn cmd, it keeps giving me this error:

    Pin "VSS" is not created because it's not in the netlist and also not a P/G pin.

    >> I know it's not declared in the Verilog netlist since it is power/ground pin. Why does Encounter not recognize it as a P/G pin. even in my .conf file, i have this:

    set rda_input(ui_pwrnet) {VDD}
    set rda_input(ui_gndnet) {VSS}

    so if anyone has experience the same, please let me know. thank you very much.
    regards,
    chhay

    HI,
    Just check in you're def file for "SPECIALNETS" sections for VDD and VSS pins . if you are missing them then use "defOut -floorplan" switch to get them in def file . and you get them even from .fp file (loadFPlan) with PGPin , PinBox having such information. hope it will solve your issue.

    Ex. : In PINS section
    - vdd + NET vdd + SPECIAL + DIRECTION INOUT + USE POWER
    + LAYER M4 ( -1440 0 ) ( 1440 280 )
    + FIXED ( 1092580 1191680 ) S ;

    You can also check in .fp ( floorplan) file for the fallowing syntax to existing of POWER and GROUND definition .

    PhysicalNet: vdd -pwr
    PhysicalNet: vss -gnd

    And for PGPins :

    PGPin: vss vss inout gnd fixed 671.8100 1708.8400 N 7 1
    PinBox: 669.2000 1703.6200 674.4200 1708.8400 -lyr 7

    mohanch007,
    thank you very much. you saved me! I haven't been trying to figure this out for a long time. it works when i specify the special net/pin in the .def file from cadence.

    I have another question regarding power planning tho. so i created a rectilinear contour for the core with the placement blockage using the partition cut. so when i addRing around the contour of the block, it says:

    selected placement blockage (x1, y1, x2, y2) will be considered by addRing command as placement objects.

    another thing is that the Encounter won't let me addRing using the type: core ring(s) contouring. it says the check design boundary or specify valid offsets.
    please help.
    thank you soooo much for your help!
