CDNLive! Israel events took place on October 17-18 and drew over 700 attendees mostly from Israel, but also from the UK, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Romania, Serbia and the USA.
The CDNLive! executive evening took place on October 17th at the Port Restaurant, on the Herzelia Marina. Over 50 executives of Israel's leading semiconductor companies attended, as well as several representatives of the venture capital community and partners. Lip-Bu Tan welcomed the attendees and presented his view on the current industry’s drivers and trends. Raanan Gewirtzman, CEO at Broadlight, an Israeli Start-up company in the Fiber Access market, shared his company’s strategic choices and how Cadence Software and Services has contributed to his success. Building on the current hot M&A market, Barak Platt, Partner at Yigal Arnon & Co leading Israeli law-firm, shared his “Ten Commandments to a Successful M&A Transaction”.
Conference showcased the EDA360 vision
The CDNLive! main conference took place on October18th at the Avenue Convention and Events Center near Ben Gurion International Airport, with the theme of “Beyond your Imagination”.
Moshe Zalcberg, General Manager of Cadence Israel, welcomed the attendees while stating that "CDNLive! Israel 2010 showcases Cadence’s EDA360 vision as the challenges of Silicon, SoC and System Realization were a common theme in the keynote and technical presentations, as well as the exhibition that included Design, IP and embedded Software partners."
President and CEO Lip-Bu Tan opened the event with a welcome keynote on "Innovation and Transformation,” outlining some of the key trends driving our industry.
In his keynote, John Bruggeman, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer ofCadence, shared his insights on “Realizing EDA360”. His presentation described the challenges designers are facing and the solutions required to enable profitable Realization of electronic systems. His message was very well received by the customer base, as well as members of the press attending.
The industry keynote , “Designing Complex VLSI Products – Truth and Misconception” was presented by Ron Friedman,Vice President and General Manager of Microprocessor and Chipset Development at Intel. He elaborated on the mounting challenges in designing a next-generation CPU at Intel. Among other topics, he discussed the need for Advanced Verification methodologies, Hardware Emulation and increasing productivity in Silicon Realization. He also discussed the expanding Software content in his projects and the need for the EDA industry to address this challenge, in full alignment with the EDA360 vision.
Following the keynotes, we held 3 tracks on SoC & System Realization and Functional Verification, Analog/RF Custom Design and Digital Design Implementation. In line with the EDA360 message, we also had, for the first time, an Embedded Software track in partnership with ARM, Wind River and Global Logic.
The event finished on a high-note with an amazing performance by Lior Suchard, a renowned Israeli Supernatural Entertainer, who has appeared on US TV shows and who is currently running a show in Las Vegas! Definitely “Beyond your imagination!”
Technical committee and best paper
Key to the success of this user conference was the formation of a Technical Committee. They advised and reviewed the different papers submitted by customers to the conference.
The Technical Committee was chaired by Eli Zyss from Altair and included: Dudi ben Auen - Intel, Igor Elkanovich - Broadlight, Neil Feldman - Siano, Noga Dayag - Zoran, Osnat Arad - Freescale, Ofer Tamir - Tower Semiconductor , Ran Snir - Ceva , Ofer Ezra - Mellanox, Miki Papismedov - Sandisk , and Nir Sever - Tehuti Networks; they were joined by Cadence employees Yoav Levy, Addy Elbaz, Shawn Ruby, Rafy Diaz, and Beny Bar.
The Best Paper award went to "Backend Design for the QUICC Engine Communication Controller with LEC-ECO Flow," presented by Ms. Liron Salamon, Freescale.
