Apache
In November 2007, Apache acquired Optimal, a technology leader in 3D extraction and modeling, power integrity, and thermal analysis for IC Package and SiP design. For the past five years, Cadence and Optimal have worked together through an OEM partnership, where Cadence re-sells an embedded version of PakSi-E, a 3D extraction and modeling tool. Apache and Cadence have recently formed a multi-year preferred technology partnership that will extend the collaboration to include having PakSi-E, PowerGrid (power integrity), and PakSi-TM (thermal analysis) be the recommended solutions for Cadence IC Packaging and SiP users.

ARC International
ARC International (LSE: ARK) serves the rapidly growing multimedia-enabled consumer device market with two product lines.

First, ARC licenses multimedia subsystems and CPU/DSP processors based on industry-leading, patented, configurable technology, and provides system-on-chip (SoC) developers with a strategic competitive advantage. Using ARC's subsystems and cores, licensees can develop highly differentiated ARC-based chips that consume less power, are less expensive to produce, and provide protection from cloning — distinct advantages over non-configurable, "fixed architecture" alternatives.

Second, Sonic Focus, an ARC International company, licenses post-processing audio software that enhances the consumer multimedia experience by bringing greater clarity and realism to music derived from compressed data streams such as MP3. Sonic Focus provides technology to OEMs to restore fidelity of compressed data streams, create a "surround sound" environment, and expand stereo streams to 5.1 or 7.1 channels. For more information about Sonic Focus's award-winning audio post-processing technology, visit www.sonicfocus.com.

Coupling Wave Solutions
Coupling Wave Solutions* (CWS) innovative software helps successful integration of analog/RF/mixed-signal blocks in complex SOCs. CWS products predict the level of electrical aggression generated by all components, as well as the propagation across the whole system, through a combination of interconnect, silicon substrate, and package parasitics. This integrates seamlessly into customer flows to tackle analog/RF/mixed-signal integrity from IP authoring to full-system assembly. The tool suite lets designers control noise issues — power integrity, electro-migration, cross-talk — early in the design cycle through what-if analysis, down to final layout verification. Benefits include better I/O and ESD strategies, improved IP isolations, and more.
