Cadence a Leader in Patents
Broad and Deep Portfolio Reflects a Culture of Inventiveness Feature stories archive »
The San Francisco Business Times recently published a list of the largest patent recipients in the greater bay area for 2008, and Cadence was the only EDA solutions provider to make the list. High-tech powerhouses Intel, Hewlett-Packard and Cisco Systems occupied the top three slots.
With more than 800 patents, and more than 800 patents pending, the Cadence patent portfolio is larger by far than any EDA company. This strong and broad portfolio of intellectual property stems from more than two decades of pioneering research and development at Cadence.
Today, Cadence continues to drive innovation in the EDA industry, and the company puts great emphasis on encouraging its engineers and researchers to submit their work for consideration as patentable material. A Patent Committee meets monthly to review recent inventions and recommends the most important ones for consideration as formal Cadence patent applications. Successful candidates also receive financial rewards for their inventiveness.
“At Cadence, we have always understood the importance of innovation and the breakthrough thinking that drives technology and business,” said Dr. Charlie Huang, Cadence Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. “For more than two decades, Cadence has devoted extensive resources toward developing innovations that solve problems for our customers and also enable the remarkable leaps in technology that have come to characterize the electronics industry. We are proud of the many engineers at Cadence who have been awarded patents for their work here; and we are pleased with the impact these inventions have had on our customers’ success.”
