Nufront Develops Mobile Computing Chip in Record Time Using Palladium XP
Nufront faced several challenges when designing its third-generation dual-core ARM® Cortex™-A9-based mobile computing chip, the NS115. The 12-million‒gate low-power design had to meet strict mobile-computing platform specifications while supporting high performance levels and low power consumption. For example, it would be used in ultra-thin personal computers supporting 3D games and high-definition video.

To be successful, the Nufront design team needed to focus on performance and power with Android applications, and they needed to verify and emulate the chip as quickly as possible. The team required a faster, more effective solution than register-transfer‒level (RTL) simulation for system-level verification.

Nufront chose the Cadence® Palladium® XP Verification Computing Platform with Dynamic Power Analysis. Using Palladium XP hot-swap technology, the design team was able to quickly emulate the NS115 and achieve early system-level integration and software validation for Android and Linux while optimizing power consumption. Ultimately, Nufront sped simulation by 1,000x over RTL simulation while achieving exceptionally high levels of quality.
