11 years ago a belief that a life of dignity begins with a holistic, healthy, happy childhood, took on a new spin in the form of the CRY Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge - 5Cs
as it is nicknamed. What started as a small initiative today unites some of the best known companies for the most sought after challenge in the country.
In the last couple of years 5Cs has grown beyond cricket to an Olympic-style weekend event. This is a unique event that combines sport and corporate citizenship. It brings the action of multiple sports like cricket, soccer, table tennis, badminton, basketball, golf (driving range) and a mini-marathon with participation from corporates, who all come together for the cause of child rights.
Since its inception, 5Cs has raised over Rs 3 crore in support of CRY’s movement for child rights.
The 11th annual 5Cs was conducted on 4th and 5th December 2010 at the Noida Stadium, Noida, India. The event was kicked off by former Indian cricket Test opening batsman Chetan Chauhan. The 2-day event witnessed some very exciting and breathtaking sports performances. The event had 16 companies participating, 7 sports in all, over 300 matches and over 600 individual participants. The atmosphere at the venue was electric with both participants and spectators charged up.
Cadence was joined by teams from Birla Soft, DSCL, Freescale Semiconductor, GE, Headstrong, KPMG, Nucleus Software, Polaris, Punj Lloyd, QA Infotech, Radisson MBD, Royal Bank of Scotland, Rockwell Automation, Sopra Group and The Oberoi Hotel.
Cadence Design Systems emerged as the overall winner of the event with 3 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 3 Bronze medals. Freescale was the first runner-up and Headstrong was the second runner-up.
The major chunk of the money raised will be allocated to specific CRY projects that are powered by a common vision of ensuring that all children enjoy their basic rights to live, learn, grow and enjoy childhood.
