If you sent the design to Cadence it's always good to add a script (File >Script >Record) of what you are doing along with setting the AppMode, Find Filter and any Options.     The commads that Steve had shown above are taken from a raster artwork record.  If you create artwork for a layer and then open the resultant data in a text editor you would see the commands referenced by Steve as well as a host of others.

    I believe the answer is that you have connect line endcaps disabled in the Display tab of the Design Parameter Editor (Setup > Design Parameters) Also discussed before in the forum http://www.cadence.com/community/forums/T/16387.aspx

     You will want to modify the .dlt file that you are using to have the keyword "?SeparateSlotHoleLegend" as a 'yes' The dlt fiel can be found in <install_dir>/share/pcb/text/nclegend/default-xxx.dlt (where xxx is 'mil', 'in', 'mm' the units you are using.) This file is self documenting and ...
