     Import DXF will handle polylines correctly.  You will have problems if you have splines or other curve fitting geometry.  What kind of "unsupported geometry" is mentioned in the log file?

    Verify that the DXF units are correct.  By default, the Import DXF UI will assume that the DXF units are the same as the brd.  That is because the units are not encoded in the DXF file.  If you know that they are different, you must correctly indicate the DXF units on the UI.     No. There is nothing else you can do.  You will only get the height values when you export blocks.  Exporting blocks is useful if you want a DXF version of your Allegro symbol. For exporting a board, it is best to NOT export blocks.  This will get you accurate component instance refdes and placement ...

    Sounds like you have "Export Blocks" enabled.  The DXF Blocks are created from the symbol definition, which doesn't have the ref des. (It will be what you see in the Allegro Symbol Editor).  Try exporting without the blocks enabled.
