  • Re: Getting part on grid
Hi Tom, No problem, I am glad I could help. In some cases I wish Quick Place would be driven by a grid as well, or at least have an option to snap to a grid. You could also use Autoplace to place by room.  If you already have a ROOM property on your components then you would need to define ROOM shapes using Setup > Areas > Room ...

  • Re: Copper Pouring and Gloss (is it a problem?)
Hello, After running Gloss the dynamic shapes become out of date and need to updated.  Go into Display > Status... and under the Shapes section change the Dynamic fill mode to Smooth and click the Update to Smooth button.  All should be well again. Hope this helps, Mike Catrambone

  • Re: Getting part on grid
Maybe you could consider using Auto Placement (Place > Autoplace) to place the components based on the auto-placement grid.  Here are the quick steps: 1) Setup > Areas > Package Keepin - Define shape where components can be placed, required by the next step. 2) Place > Top Grids - Enter the X and Y Grid increment and indicate ...

  • Re: Symbols & Padstacks
If you don't see it in the menu, I would run the batch command "dump_libraries" from a DOS command prompt. Type system on the Allegro command line to get to a DOS command prompt quickly then type the following: dump_libraries <symbol.dra> This will not only dump the Padstacks used in the symbol but also any related Shape ...

  • Re: Duplicate drills in drill legend
After making the changes so the figure and size match in the Drill Customization form then click the Merge button to merge the same drill sizes to remove the duplication then the OK button.   This will save time going into the each padstack in pad designer to make the changes manually. Mike

  • Re: Duplicate drills in drill legend
In order to combine the same drill sizes in the legend you need to have the Tolerance, Drill figure and Drill figure size identical in both padstacks, if not they will have individual entries in the drill legend.  Double check the padstacks to make sure you have exact matches and regenerate the Drill legend. Hope this helps, Mike Catrambone

  • Re: PCB Editor (Allegro) Get Distance (Dimension) Between Two Points
I don't believe the current dimensioning functionality has the ability to dimension the Air-Gap between elements (ie. Pins) to provide the same results as the Display > Measure Air Gap calculation.

  • Re: Why does 0603rf_wv_12d have two vias in it?
In some cases, librarians add fanout (pin escapes) to their library symbols to save time during layout and to have a more consistent component fanout in all locations.  My opinion is that the RF stands for Reflow (as the Reflow SMD Pads are sometimes different than the SMD Pads for the Wave solder process) and the WV stands for ...

  • Re: Set path to .brd file?
Check your project setup, Click on the Setup button or Tools > Setup in Project Manager.  Once the Project Setup form opens click on the View Tab and under the View Name section make sure Physical is set to the physical folder.  Inside of the physical folder you should have the Allegro .brd file for the design and a ...

  • Re: How do I create a stack of vias
There is a Best Practices document for High Density Interconnect Design which covers the use of Microvias, here is the link to it on the support site. http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:DocumentViewer;src=pubs;q=/bphdi/bphdi16.2/introduction.html In order to use Microvias you need the Allegro PCB Designer license ...
