  • Re: Error Creating a Printed Circuit Board Using OrCad Capture and PCB Editor
Old Mouldy is correct. Once you have created the netlist, you need to go into the PCB editor (which should open automatically) and place the board outline. Then manually place the components from the picker. I tend to not use the component keepout/keepin areas when I do an initial design as these are only additional areas that need to be ...

  • Re: PCB date code
Sorry that you have not had a quick reply to this question. I would say this is a question for your fab shop. If you specify a 4 digit date code with a specific format, then they should be able to accomodate you. And if you specify a 5 digit date code, they should be able to do that too. If you think, a design can be used and produced over many ...

  • Changing some fonts in Allegro Layout 16.5
I have some general text on my design but I need a different style of text from the 'Courier' default. I only need one or two text to be changed and can use a different textblk number for this if needed.  Is it possible to change just one or two text blocks to a different font?

  • Re: How to connect vias to specific layers
My design is not a standard Glass Fibre/Epoxy design and yes, it is standard for my design fabrication to use odd and even layer counts.  #Chads108, Is there any way of adding the route keepout to a via (maybe give it a new name to separate the new via) instead of doing it for each via in the design?

  • How to connect vias to specific layers
I have a design which has 7 layers. The top layer has only short stubs. There are two layers for traces but they are sensitive signals and there is a solid ground plane above and below these two layers. I have connected these two planes at one point near the incoming supply. I also have a single ground plane as layer 7 which is noisy. ...

  • How to display different Drill Legends on one sheet.
I have been trying to find how to display different layer drill legends on a single sheet. The help file 'algroman.pdf' shows the type for file I am trying todisplay in Figure 2-1, but when I am in PCB Designer 16.5 and I go to the NC - Drill Legend command, it places a single outline with all the different layer text one on top of ...

  • Re: Forcing via connections
That almost worked. I set the thermal relief for global dynamic shapes to none. Selected the shape where I wanted the connections and RMB the selected parameters and changed the thermal relief for that layer without problems. But the single pin to connect the other planes did not work. I have added 4 traces from that pin to the copper pour ...

  • Re: Single Point Gound
I started the design with two seperate grounds. Used the inner layer to create two ground poured coppers. When this was optimised, I then added a route keepout on the inner layer in the gap between the two grounds that extended beyond the board outline except where I wanted the single connection. Then went back to the schematic and joined the two ...

  • Forcing via connections
I have a multi-layer design with multiple ground plane layers. But these have issues with ground loops. How can I set something in PCB Editor 16.5 that will only connect vias to one ground plane layer and leave all other layers unconnected, so that I can use a single ground connection point.
