How to incorporate female and male plugs and solder points Reply

    Hello everybody,

I am a student making a project on PCBs ,and i have a small question .

The schematic i want to map ,has many Plugs (both male ,and femlae),and solder points, and connectors (like the EBC15DCWN).

Is it necessary to make a footprint of these parts before going to layout ,or is it only a part of the mechanical layout ofthe board ,and can be added later ?

Can anybody guide me as to how to make the footprints ,or otherwise ?

    Thanks in advance !

Okay,so just to clarify things a bit more.

The schematic includes soder points, and male and female connections which are to be incorporated.

     My point is :-

Do i need to make the footprints before going to layout ? and if so ,are there predefined footprints for parts like these ? or do i have to custom make the footprints ?

You will need the footprints in order to layout the board.  If you do a search on your computer for "*.llb" you can find the location of sample libraries provided by Orcad.  It should be under Orcad\orcad_xxx(<-your version)\tools\layout\library.  When you open Layout, select Tools\library manager and add any necessary libraries.  Search the libraries and see if you can find a footprint that meets the manufacturers recommended footprint.   If there is no footprint close to what you need, you will have to create it yourself.  I also suggest running the Learning Orcad Layout tutorial under the help tab to help you understand what you may need to create.

     Good luck,

    Have a good day, Ken Capture 16.5 S022, Layout 16.2.0p001, PCB Editor 16.5 S025
