Redefine function keys when switching edit modes Reply

    Hi Everyone,

I’m a relatively new Cadence user, just 4 months on the tool so far.  Before switching to Orcad Design Professional, I was an Mentor Expedition user.  I use a Nostromo N52 speedpad while I’m working on a layout and already have game pad keys memorized to functions.  Mentor automatically redefined function keys based on whether you were in placement or route mode.  I wanted the same functionality with Candence.

If anyone is interested here is a way to do that.

First, put the following alias in your env file:

    alias F12 'settoggle CMD bl_placementedit bl_etchedit; $CMD'

Second, load the two attached skill files in your allegro.ilinit file.

         load "BL_etchedit.il"

    load "BL_placementedit.il"

Third, edit the attached skill files adding as many function keys as you want to change.

Open Allegro and hitting F12 will switch between placementedit and etchedit mode while redefining the function keys listed in the skill files.

    Hope others find this helpful.

This is an excellent Tip and I am only sorry I did not see it earlier.  Somehow my email subscription to this forum was disabled.

There are many great new features in the Application modes - this makes them even that much easier to access with the mini keypad that can be redefined depending on what Application mode I am in!  Simple but highly functional - Very nice.  Thank you!

    Bill
