 pss insufficient memory problem

    pss insufficient memory problem Reply

    Dear Team,

    I am using virtuoso 6.1.5 version running pss, errors are found in the CDS.log window, sayin:"INFO (ADE-3069): Errors encountered during simulation. For more information, see the log files accessible from the Simulation -> Output Log menu."

    But the spectre.out file shows "onv norm = 10.4e+03, max dV(M47:int_d) = 79.2508 mV, took 4.48 s."

    I can only view the output log file errors by typing spectre spectre.out command in the console. I attached both spectre.out file I can see from virtuoso and file content I can see after spectre command in the console.

    I have tried using 64-bit simulation enviroment, using swapfile for simulation as you suggested in other posts, and the machine I am using has around 6GB memory, 12GB swap.

    Please take a look at both files and help me find out what the problem is. Thanks!

    For questions like this, it is better to file a Case with Customer Support.

    • Your versions of spectre are very old.  You should be using MMSIM 12.1.1 or better yet MMSIM 13.1 .
    • You didn't mention how many nets/nodes that you were saving.  Only save the most important ones.
    • It is helpful to see the analysis and options lines in the netlist.  They can give useful information on potential setup issues.
    • It almost looks like you're running spectre on the spectre.out file in the second logfile.

    1. Are MMSIM101 and MMSIM12* different from each other very much? Since as you mentioned in some previous posts, MMSIM6 version can also support 64 bit simulation.

    2. In the first file I attached, you can find nodes and nets from circuit inventory part

    3. What do you mean by  analysis and option lines? you need netlist?

    4. Yes, cause if I just simply viewed the spectre.out file, it will show as the first document, I can not find any errors but pss just stoped and the CDS.log window ask me to view output.log file for errors

    Hi,

    1. Yes, MMSIM10.1 and 12.1.X are a lot different.  Better yet, go to 13.1.   

    2. That is not what I was asking for.  In the netlist, there is a "save" statement.  It will tell how many nodes and nets are saved.  If you "save all" (for example), that can cause issues.    Saving only selected nets/nodes is recommended.  There is an example: 

    saveOptions options save=allpub

    3.  The analysis and option lines in the netlist.

    here is an example of what they could look like (depends on how you set up your analysis, what analysis you are running, etc.)

    simulatorOptions options reltol=1e-3 vabstol=1e-6 iabstol=1e-12 temp=27 \

    4.  You want to view the spectre.out file (say using "vi" or something similar).
