How to get a layer selected a PIN? Reply

     Hi expert,

I want to know a way to get a layer where I select any pin in.

If a pin is through type and I select the pin at internal layer named Layer2, I want to get ths Layer2.

and If I select the pin at layer named Layer3, I want to get Layer3.

    How to do get this?

    Thansk in advance.

A  pin is an object that doesn't have a layer as such. You are talking about pads. However you can't "select" a pad. The only way I can think to detect the layer that you used to select the pin is to look at the visibility of the etch layers when the selection was made.

    Thansk Dave,

    You are correct exactly.

But It is difficult to detect the layer if the visibility of serveral layers are ON.

     For example)

There are 4 layers, TOP, Layer2, Layer3 and Bottom. and the visibility for Layer2 and Layer3 are ON.

and then I selected Pin on Layer3.

In this case, I just want to know a pad in Layer3, but it is difficult now.

Do you know other way to get the layer?

    Thanks

The command axlPadOnLayer should do the job if you are on 16.6.  Otherwise you will need to use axlDBGetPad and do some analysis.
