    How to generate a BOM from OrCAD using a Tcl script? Reply

    Can anybody give me a pointer on where to get started to generate an OrCAD BOM using a Tcl script?

     I have some specific formatting requirements in order for my BOM to get imported into my BOM management tool.  I can pass the BOM through a Perl script, or I can use Tcl and generate the right format from the beginning.

    Thank you

    Any Tcl comamnds etc can be found in <your_install_dir>\tools\capture\tclscripts there's a pdf called orcad_capture_tcltk_extensions.pdf that should gove you some pointers.

    it's called capGenerateBOM.tcl

    Thanks folks!

    That's exactly what I was looking for.  For anybody stumbing across this thread in the future, it looks like I can copy capGenerateBOM.tcl from the capCustomSamples directory to my design directory (for the moment), open up the command window, and execute

    Capture> source {myGenerateBOM.tcl}
    Capture> generateCustomBOM

    and that seems to work.  Now I can go hack myGenerateBOM.tcl to my heart's content.  Once I'm done hacking, I'll go stick the script someplace more permanent than my design directory.

    Thanks again.

    Hi

    Whenever you need to go into Capture (CIS) configuration on a company wide basis with version independent setup, you could take a look at

    http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=da&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=da&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fnordcad.dk%2Fdk%2Fteknik__service%2Fe-service%2Fe-service_nr_138.htm&act=url

    There's also a pdf document in English on that page.
