 Translating a Layout PCB, character length

    Translating a Layout PCB, character length Reply

    Good morning all,

         I tried to translate an old board, but some footprints get the "_" removed from the name.  I believe this is because the names are more than 31 characters.  I know how to change this in a design, but do not know how to/or if it can be changed in the translater.  Any help would be appriciated.

    The "official" character limit for the PCB flow is 31 characters so I think this is likely cast in the code of the translator, also possibly because, in the original OrCAD Layout libraries, no footprint names exceeded 31 characters, nothing ever "blew this up" in testing. I think that you will have to rename the resulting files. You will also need to increase the Long Name Size in Capture and PCB Editor to use the longer than 31 symbol names in the netlist.

    I figured as much, but was hoping there was something I was missing or could change.  In my old Layout files I have library footprints which exceed 31 characters and had no issue and was hoping the translator could be adjusted like the design tab under the design parameters.  Thankfully there are only a couple dozen parts which get deleted when I import the logic.   Thanks for the help.
