I have been using the part developer tool (v16.6) for creating the symbols but i am not able the see the symbols i have created. I understand that the symbols can be viewed in canvas. Could you please let me know how do i open/see/use this symbol editor canvas.

     Thanksin advance.

Hello APKini - The "canvas" is simply the entire background of the graphical image displayed on your computer screen.  I you think of yourself as an "artist" the computer screen is your "canvas".  Hope this helps.

Thanks for your QUICK reply. Well, I have been refering "Part Developer Tutorial" and as per instructions, i created symbol using "generate symbol" but i am not able to see that black background window (which they call as symbol editor canvas) as shown in page 43 even when i click on the symbol name "sym_1". What could be the possible reason ?

    Hello,

I am a new user to Cadence and have encountered the same problem. The tutorial clearly indicates the Symbol Editor canvas should display the symbol, but does not!. Have you (or anyone else) managed to get to the 'canvas'?

Anyone please jump in and answer....i cannot find a 'button' that displays the canvas.....help

    Thank you

    Hello,

You can open PDV with any product license but you can only view the symbols (schematic) in PDV if you are running a librarian license.  Are you sure your using a librarian license?

Thank you for the quick response.

Forgive the daft question, how would I know if I were running a librarian license…?

If that is the ‘Allegro PCB Librarian XL’ license, then I know we do not have that…..so I guess I have to edit / view the symbols in the design entry tool?

    Regards
    John

Yes, I'm referring to the Allegro PCB Librarian XL "product license".  If you aren't running that you will not see the symbol on the canvas...  But like you said you can edit the symbol in Allegro HDL.  Within PDV you can click on the symbol and then click on Tools --> Design Entry HDL.  It will open Allegro HDL.

PDV is very buggy so I find it much easier to do as much as possible outside of PDV and then go back in to PDV to do a save.
