mechanical parts in Capture to BOM Reply

Is it possible to add parts to the schematic that are not part of the PCB design? I have a carrier that has multiple parts (die and single layer capacitors). The schematic symbol visually has all of the components on the carrier but they are just drawn as lines. Is there a way to get all of the carrier components added to the schematic BOM without actually being part of the PCB design?

Yes.  Simply leave the footprint field(s) blank for the part.  The part will show on your schematic and will be added to the BOM, but will not appear on the PCB when you netlist.  I use a "Z" suffix for the ref des of my mechanical components so they appear at the end of the BOM.  I even assign a symbol to the blank board, after all, the raw PCB should be on the BOM!

If you leave the PCB Footprint field blank on a PCB Editor design flow then this will not netlist. The best way is to create a schematic symbol that has no pins. This way it gets a refdes and can have properties (part number etc) so will be part of the BOM but will also not affect the netlist.

Right Steve.  I forgot to add that the symbol should have no pins.  Thanks!
