aligning dxf import with grid Reply

I'm creating dxf place outlines with references on the drawing for pad placement in the symbol editor. When I import the dxf into the symbol editor I want a reference to align with a grid point. I need to choose a point on the drawing such as the end of a line and align it to a grid point.

Well been floundering around and at least have a decent method. I'm  importing the dxf and putting it on a new subclass called mechanical outline. Then off to the side away from it I place the through-holes in the necessary pattern then set the grid to a fine resolution and select the dxf outline and move it to align my hole references with the placed holes. This is good enough and no real reason to split hairs trying to align the dxf with the grids.

Use 5 mil circles to specify pin1 or origin of part.  Then in allegro move the origin to center-xy of the 5 mil circle.  You can find the center by selecting show element.

If you are running 16.2 you can use a RMB snap to function and snap the item to a pin, via, intersection, circle etc. Thus can be done in most commands.

I'm running 16.0 I think and don't see snap options with RMB. With the show element I'm able to select a pin and find the center then find the center of the target then in the move command I have to type in the origin(center of pin) then the new location(center of the reference). It's a little tedious and some snap to option would be great. It may be in this version but don't know. When it asks to choose origin at this point I need a way to get the center but I'm typing it in (x x,y) at the command prompt from the previous Display/Element operation.

The snap to feature was a 16.2 enhancement. I suggest you get the latest version. In fact 16.3 is due out very soon...... Lots of enhancements in the release.

You should be able to select the text or numbers with your cursor.  Then <right mouse click> option select copy.

Type x in the command prompt.  Then <right mouse click> option select paste

First you need to know a reference point between DXF and pad file. Let say for DXF it is (1000, 1500) and for pad file reference point it is (0, 0). Click MOVE >> select DXF file by user pick >> and enter the values (x, y) in command bar as (1000, 1500) and then give the destination point (0, 0). By doing that your DXF file will be align with pad file or hole file whatever it is.

    Regards
