Problem getting diodes to work in the OrCad 16.2 PSpice Demo Reply

In PSpice, with even the simplest of examples, I keep getting the error -- "Model <whatever> used by D_D1 is undefined" regardless of what diode I'm using.  I've checked my library settings, path settings, ini files, but cannot seem to locate the source of this error.  Any recommendations?

     Thanks.

    Mark

IF you are sure that you are using PSpice parts from the PSPice library, the next thing to check is that the "standard" simulation libraries are configured, PSpice>Edit Simulation Profile, Configuration Files tab, select Library as the category. I suspect that the "nom.lib" is not in the configured libraries, to add this use the UPPER Browse button and browse to the "tools\PSpice\library" directory within the installation, pick the "nom.lib" file and click on "Open", back in the Simulation Setings dialog, click on the "Add as Global" button and OK to close the Simulation Settings dialog. The simulation should then be able to find the "standard" models. (It may not be too surprising if correctly configuring this isolates some other issues with the installation that prevent the simulation from running)

Thanks for the reply.  I added "nom.lib" & it still tells me that the diode is undefined.  I uninstalled/reinstalled OrCad Demo & it still doesn't recognize diodes.  Can you provide details of every configuration setting I should check over?  It's probably something simple, but I can't see what it is.

     Thanks,

Finally figured out the problem.  I had to manually update the PSpice.ini file to get the diode.lib to "stick".  I kept inserting it into the Lib section of the Configuration dialog box, but it kept vanishing.  So I manually updating  the [PSPICE DEMO] section of the INI file & then everything worked OK.  A little goofy, but at least it's an INI file and not a Registry entry!

This happens beacuse of Admin access issues with Vista. I found a method of solving the problem. Run Capture as an Admin and bing problem solved. But the library is added with the entire path in the lib section ... does not look very neat so I am going to use what u had described  ... manually editing the .ini file

How hard to include the diode models with your installation. how do you suggest I over come the following error, if you did not give them to you users! >> ERROR -- Model D1N3940 used by D_D1 is undefined <<

I added nom.lib as global, and it works for me!

Thank you very much, oldmouldy. You have just helped me for the second time.

    Thanks for this post !

Finally, diodes from the ON_DIODE library worked for me.

First, add the ON_DIODE.olb file in the "Place Part" => "Add library"

Second, add the ON_DIODE.lib file in the "Edit Simulation settings" => "Configuration files" Tab => Browse, "Add as Global".

I must say - figuring out the second step was painful.
