[help] about net_name_length Algorithm in Concept SCALD and ConceptHDL Reply

     dear all,

we want to know that about net_name_length algorithm,Concept SCALD and ConceptHDL is different or not ?

if yes, how we do to get the same net name in concept SCALD and conceptHDL?

     Thanks,

I do not know if there is any difference or not between the net names length.
But we have migrated a number of cards from SCALD to HDL.This has worked well.

After the migration, we exported the logic to an upreved Allegro database, with no bigger issues.

     Mr./Ms.javinder,

    firstly,thank you help us.

    please see the three files:scald(Solaris OS),conceptHDL(Solaris OS)and ConceptHDL(windows OS).

firstly,we use CHDL-UPREV tool to migrated SCALD to HDL.we use pxl to package our HDL file in windows OS,but we find that the net name is different. firstly, we think that maybe, the different OS causes the different net name.but we package again the HDL project in Solaris OS(13.6 version),and then we find that the net name is different also. In windows OS(last),when we use pxl to package the packaged-HDL,which is used in solaris OS(13.6 version),we find that the net name is different with the packaged-HDL file(solaris OS 13.6).

now we are confused.please check pstxnet.dat in the package directory.

    Thanks,

It appears there is no correlation between unnamed nets between SCALD and HDL.  One (painful) method would be to name all nets in SCALD and then uprev to HDL.

But, why do you really care?  If you care, it might be easier to cross-check the changes with the ECO report generated and compare that against a master netlist.

Re: [help] about net_name_length Algorithm in Concept SCALD and ConceptHDL Reply

1.we think that the method is undoubtedly painful.

    2. we care the net name length, because we use Mentor Boardstation EN to do PCB and use some tools to generate some files for SMD and repairing lines. Our tools limites the net name length.

we think that for the unnamed nets, the algorithm should be the same and single in your each version software.

we think that Concept SCALD's algorithm is best than conceptHDL(Solaris OS and Windows OS).

because the SCALD extracts 5 fields seperated by the $ or _ character, but the conceptHDL(Solaris OS) does not strictly follow this rule.

it is very too worst thing that the conceptHDL(windows OS) extracts  the net name, which is followed the net name length request, from the beginning of the unnamed net. we think that this is reason why you set the default value:net_name_length=31.

we hope cadence can help us.

    Thanks,

Just to be clear, this is a user forum.  Most of us are not part of Cadence however Cadence has some employees that contribute.

Next, HDL replaced SCALD back in oh...2000?   So  appealing to Cadence will probably do no good. If SCALD works for you, leave your designs in SCALD.  No one here will mind.

If you have maintenance with Cadence then these kinds of issues are best directed at their support team as they know their tool better than most of us.  They may be able to find a solution to your problem.

     Hi,redwire,

    firstly, thanks you very much.

like you saying, the SCALD is very old,our local Cadence can not support, because when we bought SCALD,our local cadence had telled us that they would not help us.

    Thanks,
