Hi Haben,

While you'll be able to leverage the component manufacturers detailed part information, your board layout will still have a tight integration from the schematic and footprint assignments will be "internal" to your part libraries.

The advantage is retrieving current component information via Digi-Key and being able to use that in your BOM reports. How this data is used within your EDA libraries depends on your internal company processes (determined by the Component Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing groups).
