Cadence OrCAD Capture Marketplace -- The Cool Factors

Comments(0)Filed under: Capture CIS, OrCAD, PCB, OrCAD Capture Marketplace, OrCAD online store, Team OrCAD, apps, Marketplace, applications, on-line store

Hey, did you hear about the new Cadence OrCAD Capture Marketplace? It has the first-of-its-kind PCB online store for “apps” and literally makes finding PCB centric stuff really easy to find.

That’s cool!

No more having to leave Capture to open a browser to search for a part or a symbol. The Marketplace does all of this for you. You can click right into the Marketplace within OrCAD Capture and go to the Marketplace tabs to find what you are looking for. The Marketplace even has a filter on it to further refine your search. You can look for PSpice and IBIS models or libraries all in one spot now. Do I hear a sigh of relief?

There is also a tab for multimedia to find OrCAD related books, application notes, magazines and videos, such as those that can be found on TeamOrCAD’s YouTube channel. There’s a tab for PCB service bureaus that are reviewed by Cadence, and our Channel partners that will be listed by country, making it easy for people to connect. That’s cool!

OrCAD Capture Marketplace

Just like your favorite mobile device, you will now be able to access plug-in tools or “apps” from the online store created by Cadence within the OrCAD Capture environment. This way the newest features from Cadence R&D or partners can be delivered as an “app” so that you don’t have to wait for the next software release. This is way cool!

The “apps” are made possible by programming that is Tcl based. This capability provides access to the OrCAD Capture database, objects and command structure through Tcl commands and an API. This means if you know enough about Capture or how to write basic Tcl programming you will be able to customize your own output or automate features unique to you. That’s cool!

OrCAD “apps “will deliver new power to add features and to customize the user interface, command structure, and design database. Through “apps” or scripting customization, designers can apply automation to manual processes to complete tasks faster, and difficult operations can be streamlined. Custom features that do not exist natively can be created or downloaded, further enhancing and extending the OrCAD environment. That’s cool!

There are free “apps” and paid apps and in the future the store will provide “apps” created by end users. So if you have an idea for an “app” you want to share, the Marketplace is where it’s happening! Feel free to contact your local channel partner. That’s cool!

“The OrCAD Capture Marketplace was designed with one goal in mind – advancing the capabilities of PCB designers by enabling access to the resources engineers need in a faster, more convenient and efficient manner” said Josh Moore, senior product manager at Cadence (also, very cool!). “We will continue building and evolving the marketplace, with more apps and more content, to help ensure engineers can quickly find what they need, when they need it.”

Have you said “That’s cool" yet?
