Hot Topics List For Industry Insights Blog

Comments(1)Filed under: EDA, Industry Insights, DAC, lithography, DF, ESL, SystemC, SaaS, low power, DFM

Blogs are, by their nature, unpredictable – they cover developments that can’t be anticipated in advance. With sites like this, which will solicit outside content, you never know exactly what will show up. However, there are some topics that may be worth exploring in the Industry Insights blog in the coming weeks and months. Here, in no particular order, is a list of current topics that we think will interest the IC and system design community.

  • Software as a Service (SaaS) and cloud computing
  • EDA applications and multicore platforms – challenges and promises
  • Low power reference flow extends to ESL
  • Low power design verification
  • Are designers really moving to lower process nodes?
  • Double pattern lithography, source mask optimization, and other things you’ll need to know for 22 nm
  • Why PCB design is still “hot”
  • 3D ICs and through-silicon vias
  • E-beam lithography – has its time truly come?
  • Who uses high-level synthesis and why
  • SystemC’s progress, and new standardization effort aimed at model interfaces
  • Verification IP standardization efforts
  • Whatever happened to statistical timing?
  • Automating analog/custom design – what’s real and what’s coming
  • Verification planning and the “intelligent test bench”
  • DAC user track (sponsored by Cadence) – details as they emerge, reports on the panels
  • What the EDA industry can do about the embedded software challenge
  • The future of DFM, and its interaction with restricted design rules (RDRs)
  • How foundry consolidation and foundry alliances impact IC design
  • Hot topics in electronic design research at universities, research institutes and Cadence
We welcome your feedback! Please feel free to suggest a topic any time, add a comment, or propose a guest blog entry.

Hi Richard -
A topic I hear a lot about from IT people who support EDA designers is the explosion in design data and how it is managed, protected, and shared.  Especially with file I/O intensive operations (like DRC and physical design in general), there can be a significant runtime impact in moving from one type of file system to another (we saw 45% runtime improvement at one customer).  Thought I'd throw that into the hopper, and even volunteer to do a guest blog.
And as others have already highlighted, it's great to see your insight brought directly into the Cadence user community.  It's made cadence.com much more of a "destination" site for me.
