A Holiday Gift For Verification Projects Adopting MDV

Would you like to be doing more with your Enterprise Manager environment but just don’t have the time to figure out how to do it? Maybe things like automated email notifications, project tracking over time, and more automated debug? If you’re interested in any of these, then here is a holiday gift for you.

To allow you to be most productive, enhancements to the Incisive MDV solution provides automated flows encompassing all aspects of launching, analyzing, and managing of regressions in both interactive and batch modes, including automation for debug, reporting, charting, e-mail notification, and archiving of project historic data. These automated flows enable verification project teams to efficiently run massive parallel regressions, accurately report real time status to the team, and achieve the coverage and check goals as captured in the Verification Plan.

The end of goal the Incisive MDV solution is to allow project teams to automate all phases of the process – managing efficient verification progress, tracking critical milestones over the history of the project, and ultimately driving closure as defined by the verification plan.

So, how can your project tap into the benefits of MDV as fast as possible?

Out of the box, Incisive Enterprise Manager provides technology for planning, regression management, and analysis needed to implement a high quality MDV approach for your verification projects, facilitating all phases of the MDV process shown in the diagram above. In addition, to help projects quickly ramp up on the benefits of MDV, the Incisive Verification Kit provides a rich set of MDV methodology, workshops and golden examples that allow verification projects to quickly ramp up with MDV.

For those new to MDV, the ‘mdv_foundations’ workshop within the Incisive Verification Kit provides an excellent resource for getting started with MDV on your project. This workshop will introduce you to the Incisive technology and methodology topics you need to implement MDV. These topics include how to create a high quality verification plan for your project using Incisive Enterprise Planner as well as the basic setup and usage of Incisive Enterprise Manager for running and analyzing regressions.

Once you have the foundations for MDV in place on your project, including a high quality verification plan that captures your project’s verification goals, you have everything you need to really take full advantage of the automation and productivity enabled by the Incisive MDV solution. Now you’re ready for the ‘mdv_automation_throughput’ workshop, which is specifically targeted to get verification projects up to maximum productivity very quickly. The workshop guides users through a few simple steps that will allow them to quickly and easily add automation of the most powerful and commonly used MDV flows on top of their project’s basic MDV setup.

These include flows for automating debug, status reporting, and e-mail notification when launching regressions. Also included are important flows for tracking project milestones and long term trends with automated data rollup, reporting, and charting from multiple regressions over the history of the project. Finally, there are critical maintenance flows to provide management of masses of historic metric data and disk space over the life of the project, allowing project teams to merge and archive long term metric data and clean up extraneous files after regressions. All of these flows can be run in interactive or batch mode.

So, to get your verification projects humming along more efficiently and to make the most of your Incisive technology and methodology investments, I encourage you to take advantage the workshops in the 9.2 Incisive Verification Kit today! Besides, wouldn’t you rather spend the extra time you’ll gain relaxing for the holidays this year?

Happy Holidays from the Cadence MDV Team!
