DVCon 2014: What's the Missing Piece in Verification?

Comments(0)Filed under: EDA tools, electronics design, EDA software, computer design, ip verification, Frank Schirrmeister, software simulation, software-driven verification

SAN JOSE, Calif.-What's missing in system-design verification environments today? For many, it's software.

That's the perspective of Cadence Product Director Frank Schirrmeister, who participated in a DVCon 2104 panel that raised that very question.Brian Fuller Richard Goering and Frank Schirrmeister on Cadence TV at DVCon 2014

Schirrmeister, in an interview with me and Cadence blogger Richard Goering at DVCon 2014, said it's not the only piece (analog-mixed signal is finding its fit in the overall puzzle as well). But:

"Software itself is such a big component of the electronics design infrastructure, that it cannot be overlooked because there's an interdependency between software and hardware."

Schirrmeister said the importance of software verification stretches across the entire electronics system ecosystem, from the silicon itself, to the device it serves, all the way up to the cloud servers that process the data from the device.

Here's Schirrmeister talking about the spectrum and the future of software-driven verification:
