Exceed On Demand And Virtuoso IC6.1

Comments(5)Filed under: Virtuoso, IC 6.1, Cusstom IC Design, OpenText, Exceed on Demand

Many of our customers use our Virtuoso software in combination with the windows emulation product from OpenText named "Exceed on Demand".   To maximize performance between the two tools, we have some recommendations:

For IC6.1.4 and Exceed on Demand 7
, these setting will cause problems between the two programs.  You should change the settings to the following:

The two screen captures you have here appear to be from different versions of EOD, because many of the checkboxes don't line up, basically the whole interface is different.
Also, it's not clear which settings you're suggesting are problematic.
When you say "will cause problems" what exactly does that mean?  What sort of problems?

Edward,
The first screenshot is from EoD6, and the second screenshot is from EoD7.
Using EoD7 default settings, as originally recommended by OpenText, will
cause IC6.14 layout windows to blank out, flash. Also cursors in a schematic
window will sometimes act like an "eraser".
So if you are using EoD7 and IC6.1.4, please set the settings just like the
second screenshot.
Thanks and best regards,

Just an update from OpenText.  The fix is expected in their next patch for Exceed onDemain which is expected late-May or early-June.  The release version number will be 7.0.5.

We are using EOD for 6 years now and it works very well.
However with IC5 and EOD6, unless you set server visual to pseudocolor or 8bit color plane we see mouse tracks in icfb.
We tried using EOD7 but saw the issues as mentioned.
EOD8 is out now and we will be testing that soon with IC6

Virtuoso IC6.1.x is a 24-bit true color application, whereas Virtuoso IC5.1.41 is a 8-bit color application. It is therefore necessary for all visuals, including all native Linux, or Exceed onDemand to support 24-bit planes.
