IBM is one of the world's largest semiconductor foundries, offering a comprehensive portfolio of leading-edge CMOS, RF CMOS, silicon germanium BiCMOS and CMOS Image Sensor process technologies. Complementing these offerings is a full suite of industry standard libraries, IP and cores, including IBM's own extensive ASIC portfolio, embedded DRAM, high-density SRAM and a wide-range of value-added services. IBM has a long history of sustained innovation, consistently delivering technology firsts such as SiGe BiCMOS process technology, copper interconnects and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and low-k dielectric insulation. IBM operates multiple fabricators including a state-of-the-art 300mm plant in East Fishkill, N.Y.
CadenceĀ® has a deep-rooted relationship with IBM. Cadence is an Advanced IBM Business Partner and has collaborated with IBM to support IBM foundry technologies with EDA tools and solutions, design services and IP development. In September 2002, IBM and Cadence established a new series of agreements. These agreements extend the licensing of Cadence EDA tools by IBM for both internal and external design projects.
Digital IC design
As the next step in the ongoing collaboration between Cadence and the Common Platform coalition comprised of IBM, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing and Samsung, Cadence collaborated with the Common Platform technology partners to develop the 65-nanometer flow.
This RTL-to-GDSII reference flow is based on the Cadence Encounter digital IC design platform and enables higher productivity and improved quality of silicon (QoS). The flow addresses critical low-power design challenges, from chip prototyping through power, timing and area optimization and is targeted for wireless, wireline and consumer applications. The 65nm CPF-enabled reference flow kit can be accessed
here. This reference flow kit contains a reference design, documentation and scripts to run the reference flow. Additional information on the reference flow can be found in the
datasheet
Mixed-Signal/RF design
IBM develops, distributes and supports PDKs based on the Cadence Virtuoso custom IC design platform. These PDKs are tuned to IBM SiGe and RF CMOS processes and can improve design start-up time, boost designer productivity, and improve design quality. Once qualified by IBM, PDKs are available by contacting your IBM account manager. IBM-supplied PDKs include device models for Spectre, PCells, Symbols, Virtuoso XL tech files as well as LVS/DRC/RCx rule decks for Assura and Diva.
Design Services
For customers who need end-to-end solutions, Cadence can provide design expertise, silicon IP and complete project management for chip designs implemented in IBM foundry technologies. Our design centers have been validated as Ready for IBM Technology.
IP
Silicon IP developed by Cadence is available to mutual customers. View the complete listing at our IP Gallery. Cadence is also a key partner in hardening of IBM PowerPC microprocessor cores to foundry processes.
PDKs provided by IBM are currently available via IBM
Customer Connect.
